During the discussions she had with regard to peace and reconciliation, the High Commissioner of Human Rights of the United Nations Navaneedan Pillay had questioned with regard to the removal of the Buddhist flag that is hoisted at the premises of the Independence square, but she had not uttered anything pertaining to the statue of Right Honourable D.S Senanayake .This had been confirmed by the United Nations Human Rights council.
The media spokesman for the United Nations Human Rights Council Rupert Colville had clearly confirmed that during any
day of the official visit of the Commissioner of Human Rights of the United States Navaneedan Pillai she had never touched or spoke on the matter of the statue of D.S.Senanayaka.
The media spokesman Rupert Colville had also stated that a detailed report on this would be sent soon had been conveyed via an e mail.
However during the discussions on peace and reconciliation the Commissioner had questioned about the Buddhist flag that is hoisted at the Independence Square premises. Since it is flag pertaining to Buddhism and as there are other religions also in this country, she had questioned about it, was stated in the United States report.
She had added at that time that it would be more appropriate to hoist the National flag of the country. This fact the commissioner had only suggested to the government. This was also stated in the report submitted by Rupert Colville.
