Insider sources of Mr. Sarath Fonseka's Democratic Party (DP) say that the party has decided to present Ms. Anoma Fonseka, wife of the former Army Commander, for the oncoming Western Provincial Council election, as their Chief Minister candidate.

Meanwhile, the DP has decided to set-up a broad alliance in the opposition under its leadership, in the oncoming days.
Speaking at a media meeting held in Colombo today, DP leader Mr. Sarath Fonseka said that it is not the aim of the Democratic Party to remain as the 3rd force in the country.
He emphasized that they are working towards becoming the 2nd force and still go further.

Mr. Fonseka further said that in the recently held elections, the Sri Lankan public have given their permission for the
Democratic Party to take its new political passage forward.
He also pointed out that under circumstances where the Sri
Lankan voters have been stuck between 2 parties since many generations, what the DP has achieved in this election is a special landmark.
