Consultant Specialist Anuruddha Padeniya, the President of the government medical officers association, mentioned that although ITI mentioned that
DCD were present in the milk powder the Health Ministry had been sleeping on this matter.
He mentioned further in a media conference that the health ministry which was sleeping at the problem of DCD had given broad publicity that DCD were not included in the milk packets which issued to the market from 1st of July.
He further said that although a government institution mentioned that DCD were included, the Health Ministry did not consider about that. Therefore, the trust of the Health Ministry also declined.
The food authority unit of the health ministry did not take any action. Only 252 milk packets were removed from the market. But there are 200 million milk packets were released to the market. Therefore, those milk packets with DCD were consumed by the people. Those companies had grabbed Rs 131million from the people.
